A letter to myself

Dear (future) me , 

I know what you have been through and what you have done in your life. You have had  highs and lows , success and failure , love and hate , happiness and sadness. 

I simply do not know what you will be and where you end up in the future but I am sure that you will be finding your way to make yourself happy and be happy with who you will be and what you will be doing. 

Do not let others define you and do not let others to get you down. You are who you are and it's amazing to see you being YOU. 

I know and I believe in you that you will never ever ever follow money and success without a genuine happiness. 

Money is not important at all in your life. It may sound cliché but it is THE truth. Clichés exist for a reason. Do not ever think that money is the only thing that will make you happy. 

Be more positive! I know it's not easy to be positive sometimes but be aware that positivity can (probably) bring you peace to some extent which is a important factor of being happy. 

Thank you in advance for everything you will be doing. I expect the unexpected and I am very excited for you and for your future.

New Burma and its Social Media

Burma, a country that was ruled by the military regime isolating from the rest of the world for nearly 6 decades is now opening its doors allowing its people to connect with the outside world by different means.

Once very difficult procedure even to get a passport for an ordinary citizen restricting people getting one like having to go through what they called ‘’Education Clearance’’ which as I understood was some amount of money you had to pay back to the government for its education services that were offered to you throughout your life when you intend to leave the country and right when you apply a passport (no matter if you intend just for a short day vacation to Bangkok , 45 min fly away from the former capital, Rangoon) , is now eased to a great extent in which you can have your passport within 10 days thru a very much simpler procedure without any particular restrictions.

As country is opening up, Burmese are now able to easily be in contact with other people of the world even though there are still some constraints for ordinary people to travel internationally with regards not only to financial incapabilites but also to some visa requirements which has always not been a problem at all for some of the developing countries in the region. For instance, before a recent visa exemption agreement between Burma and Thailand which has come into effective only earlier this month of August, Burmese used to apply for a tourist visa at Thai embassy in Rangoon which you either get in line since early morning (could be as early as 3 am) to lodge your application or have it done overnight by a travel agent with some significant amount of money as a fees.

Given the constraints and circumstances Burma have in place, Burmese people tend to use the benefit of Technology to be able to connect to the outside world which to most of the Burmese generally means their families and friends working or studying overseas. The recent established foreign telecommunication companies such as Telenor or Ooredoo has been playing lately a very important role in the communication sector of Burma which is one of the poorest in the region. With their affordable SIM cards and fast internet connection, people in Burma are now accessible to Internet.

Everyone has got mobile phones and can stay connected. With the help of Technology, people became familiar with social networks and media. Even a stay-home mom who had no clue what the internet was and never touched a computer is now connected via her smartphone and is able to see what’s happening throughout the country and beyond. Many people including older generation are now reading news on their smartphones accessing the news media websites and facebook pages.

Younger generation become very active on social networks, mainly Facebook as Twitter is not very popular here in Burma for some reasons. Youths express themselves from their Facebook pages and actively participate in commenting, discussing and sharing different contents on the internet.

As the news appear very fast on social media, Burmese are also very keen to receive and share news online. News and media agencies has now grown a habit of putting the latest news on their Facebook pages and people became so very familiar with that that people go online and check their Facebook pages to get the news rather than waiting to get the full story from traditional printing media even without any desire to go check to the actual websites of the news agencies. I even saw some people copied-and-pasted the news article from the website on the comments of Facebook post so that other people won’t have to go to the website to attain the information.

There are also immense amount of faux news and misleading information being created and widely shared on social media especially of the news about the politics and religions which already are very sensitive topics to talk about in the country.

Also with little or no knowledge of privacy, (or even lack of) intellectual property rights and laws and regulations on the Internet (Facebook for vast majority of users), there is a great potential risk for misuse such as cyber bullying, grooming and abuse by online predators, identity theft and exposure to inappropriate content including self-harm, racist, hate speech and many more which of course are the threats not only to Burma but also to the world nowadays.

A lot measures and education are being very much needed to take place in the country just like almost every sector of the country as it is trying to open up and tempting to become a fast growing country in the region and catch up with the rest of the world. I hope Burma will be growing safe and sound.

What is life ??

Life has always been defined by everyone in every possible way throughout our history. Some define life as a journey. Some as a path. Some as living a rich and successful life. Some as just nothing. Sometimes, we all have that moment when we have to think what life is all about. And find out that we are living the life that has nothing to hold onto or many things to stick around.

Life defines us sometimes. All the things you have been doing in your whole life consciously or unconsciously make you the person who you are today whether which you like it or hate it.

Sometimes, you have that nuclear-like energy and you feel like you can do anything in the world. But sometimes, you ain’t got no courage, bravery, inspiration, hope, nothing at all. All you want to do is to give up, ummm not really giving up but you don't want to do anything for anyone including yourself. You just wanna be in the bed for all day long doing absolutely nothing. And that's okay if you feel lost once in a while. There is nothing wrong with that.

What’s “life’’? what defines life and what is a meaningful life?? I simply believe that life is just a life, just a period between the day you were born and you die. You gotta deal with it whether it's tough or easy.

To me, a meaningful life is a life where you enjoy yourself and accept who you are and accept others for who they are. Helping others as much as you can help you define yourself and see yourself even more. Helping others makes you realize that you are something and you have what it takes to lead to a meaningful life on your own. The life that you defined yourself not by the others. And you feel yourself and you let yourself free. That's the most wonderful and amazing feeling ever to get to know yourself and to accept it with pleasure.

Then your life is good and meaningful to yourself which I think is the most important thing in life.

ၿပီးေတာ့ ျမန္မာ လိုေတြ ဘာသာ ျပန္ၿပီး စြတ္မေျပာမိေစဖို႕ပါ မသိရင္ သူတို႕ ဘယ္လိုေျပာလဲ နားေထာင္ၾကည့္ ေမးၾကည့္ပါ ရွက္စရာ မလိုပါ ႏိုင္ငံျခား ဘာသာစကား ကို ေျပာရတာ မွားတာ မသိတာ မေတာ္တာ ေတြ ပါမွာ ပါဘဲ အဲ့တာ ကို မွားရင္ မွား မွန္းသိၿပီး ျပင္ႏိုင္မွ အဆင္ေျပမွာပါ 

ဥပမာ ကိုယ့္ လုပ္ေဖာ္ကိုင္ဖက္က ဝင္လာတယ္ ကိုယ္က စီးၿပီး ေျပာထည့္လိုက္တယ္

ဒီမွာေတာ့ အခ်င္းခ်င္း ေျပာတာ အက်င့္ ႀကီး ေတြ ပါၿပီး သူမ်ား ေတြကို တိုက္႐ိုက္ႀကီး ေတြ သြားေျပာေတာ့ ဟိုက လူေတြ က ဘာျပန္ေျပာရမွန္း မသိ ဒီက လူေတြ ေတာ္ေတာ္ ႐ိုင္းတာဘဲ လို႕ ထင္ ဒီက ဓေလ့ ဆိုတာ သိသြားသည့္တိုင္ ဒါမ်ိဳးေတြ က ဒီအဆင့္အတန္းေပါ့ေလ ဆိုၿပီး ပါးစပ္ က ထုတ္မေျပာေသာ္ လည္း စိတ္ထဲ ဘဝင္ မက် မွာ အမွန္ပါ ။

1) Never add a total stranger as a friend 

2) Never get myself other name without any apparent reason 

3) Never post/share/comment/like anything racist 

4) Never tag anyone in anything without proper reason 

5) Never believe in anything on Facebook (or any other social media) without screening and researching myself

Words to remind myself

Different people have different opinions and ideas. 

You cannot expect everyone in the whole damn world to come together and be united as one. 

But it's crucially important that you know how to respect other opinions and ideas and beliefs. 

I always remind myself that I cannot agree on what others say all the time and every other people cannot (cannot) agree on what I say. And it is okay , perfectly fine. 

What you have been taught , learned , told might be very different towards the others and you should not (absolutely not) think the others wrong. They are just different and it does not mean they are wrong or you are right. 

Some people are kind while others are mean. Some people are helpful while others are ignorant. Some people are flexible while others are strict. Some are wise while others are dumb. 

Every one has their own good and bad. Don't judge others because you do not know what they have been going thru.

What I know or what you know is just as little as a rain drop in the ocean. 

There is no such thing called Eternal Truth. Do not hold on only one thing 

Tu me manques

      Sometimes , I miss you so bad , but I am sure that I dont wanna go back to where we were. That's not what I want. It's been more than enough that I got to know all the ups and downs with you. I am thankful for all the things I have experienced and I will never regret what I did. I am not that kind of person who always regrets for the things I did. 

      I knew that I was hurt and I was healed but not completely. You always come to my mind, to my dreams, to my thoughts. It's really hard not to think about you or prevents me from thinking or dragging you into everything I see. I did not wanna be an idiot but I guess I was one because obviously we became apart even thou we could get back together.I know I was not in your mind and i can never be. That was so heart breaking to me

Music is such a big part of my life

    As many of you , I like music , i mean who does not like music ? I LOVE LOVE music , it is such a big part of my life , MY LIFE and when I say my life it's literrally my daily life. I listen to the songs EVERYDAY. There is no one day that I don't listen to the songs , if there is one , I was may be being deadly sick or I did not have any access to any music. I would say I enjoy a lot of music , I don't listen to the artists instead I listen to the songs , if a song is damn good , I just listen to it. I don't follow one singer. I listen to the popular songs but also some oldies or not so popular songs that are may be recommened by my friends or I randomly found on the internet.
    Covers , I love covers , I listen to covers as well. I find covers really interesting and fun to listen to. On Youtube , there are tons of tons of covers that we can watch and some of them are freaking good.
     I listen to the songs I like pretty much every time of the day , till I wake up to I go to bed. I go to bed with the music on.

I love music.

Listen to Speak

   I am learning French and I want to have a natural sense when I speak it. One of the ways to archieve that is to listen to as much French as you possibly can. I believe that would help me a lot in developing my listening and hearing skills that will lead me to speak confidently and naturally.
    I have been listening a lot these days , i mean listening to the audios usually youtube videos , I don't watch the videos. I just listen to them again and again. I think that helps me a a lot. I thought I could not understand them as my level was not that great. But surprisingly I do understand most of it and that makes me happy. That makes me want to learn more.
       And also I am trying to read some French books but that has always been difficult for me as I don't really read in French so when I do , it's really slow and I don't get the taste of reading. But I know I really have to read more in French. There are a lot of great French books to read and I know they are really worthy.

       Have to try harder !! 

Dans le bus de Birmanie

    je suis maintenant dans le bus pubic de Rangoun. Ce n'est pas très confortable ici. Il y en a beaucoup des gens dans le bus car c'est quand tous le monde rentre chez elles. 

    La plus mauvaise chose pour moi , c'est que les ordres très désagréable des gens différents. Il est très terrible 

     Le conducteur cries tous le temps et très lourdement. 

Yale Free Online Courses

    I recently have been checking out some of the free online courses from some of the world's top universities all over the world. I have found some of the great free sources that we can learn different kinds of subjects and topices. I really like that kind of sharing and learning online (I know these are not for everyone and has its own pros and cons) especially for someone like me who live very far away from these top universities and who cannot afford to go to these universities. It still give us the idea of what it is like to be studying in those universities.That's one of the reasons why I like them.

    Anyway, I came across with Yale University online free courses (some of them are not free) as they gave you the actual credits for your degree).I checked out something about France and French culture obviously because I speak a little bit of French and I am interested in French culture and its people. It is called French Since 1871 by Professor John Merriman

     They got the Youtube videos where the professor was giving his lectures in the university lecture room that gave me the feels of being there. It is very interesting to me because the professor lectures about the origin and history of France and its time in World War Times. It really gave me the understanding of the historical background and made me want to know more about France. He has lived in France for quite a number of years doing his research. He speaks French of course. 

     I find it really interesting and fun to get to know more about France.

Learning 日本語 Japanese

     It's really fun to learn Japanese. I really enjoy learning it. Now I'm learning how to write Japanese. There are 3 kinds of writing , Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. 

Hiragana is very cute. The characters are really cute and easy to remember. Not very hard at this point. There are 50 hiragana characters. 

    Here is a photo of my writings .. so bad lol 

     I printed the practise sheets from one of the websites. They are usually free and I was surprised that there are many websites and apps for learning Japanese which makes it so easy and accessible for everyone.I also learn from NHK website. They have series of lessons with text books and audio files. And the drawings in the textbooks are really cute. 

 Japanese (Nihon Go) is really interesting and I learn it because I just love it. I love their culture and their stories. Japanese people are really polite and nice. They are one of the nicest people in the world. 

    I try not to forget how to write the ones I learned but I keep forgetting them so O have to start over and over again which is great because I need to write them down as much as I possibly can. All you need is a pen and paper.

Hanging out with friend at Inya Lake Yangon

     This afternoon I met with one of my friends / ex colleague who is not from Yangon. I headed off from office to where we meet at 4:45. Needed to take some money out from the ATM downstairs.

        We went to a restaurant called Min Lann which sells Ethnic Rakhine food. Their food is amazing like really different to what we have everyday. Arakanese (another name for Rakhine) food was basically spicy with little or no oil , very distinct taste. I love Arakanese food.

    We had "Picked Vegetables Salad" with black sesame on top. Oh man that's amazingly delicious and it was healthy too. I ordered Rakhine Mote Di which is a spicy rice noodle salad with tamarind sauce which brings in the sour taste to it. It comes with fried fish cake as well. That was so good. Another dish we had was Squid Salad which is also dressed with lemon + tamarind kinda sause along with some raw onions sprinkled on top and some coriander leaves which brings out the nice aroma. Squid was fresh , the texture and flavor was on point. It was wonderful.

    Then as a dessert, I had Mote Pao which is kinda rice cake but steamed one stuffed with some fried coconut with brown sugar. I did not really like it thou. 

     After the meal, we took a walk to the lake fron , a place a lot of people had their walk and just relax seeing the sunset or even the water. We walked a bit before we were going home as the rain came.It was just drizzle but we decided to say good bye and went back home 

    It was fun and good to catch up with friends.

what the hell is wrong with the society where women are primarily considered only as a cook and "children producing machines" when they are getting married

Rainy Yangon

    It is definitely the monsoon here in Yangon. It rains a lot AND it is hot when it is not raining. You sometimes have days that it is freaking hot in the morning till mid day while it rains cats and dogs in the evening that you have had to turn your AC off. When it rains in Yangon, the roads get really dirty and most of them are flooded. You will get dirty yellowish water sometimes with some rubbish that will come to your feet and leave them itchy if you do not wash properly right when you get home. 

     I do not DO NOT like rainy season in Yangon. Of course you will like it when you don't have to go out and don't have to go school or work just to be in your bed all day long reading your favourite book with a cup of cappucino or a cup of chai in your warm and fuzzy blankets that wrap you like a baby. You will absolutely LOVE that. But when it comes to the fact that you are obliged to go outside and make A LIVING, the rains becomes your Satan and you will get angry pretty easily every morning when you get ready yourself to go to work or every evening when you try to hang out with your friends. Meet ups will have to be cancled because of the rain and some lazy people just don't want to be outside when it rains. 

    But one good side of the monsoon here is that you get plenty of fruits, fresh and amazingly delicious especially mangoes ..... OMG I LOVE LOVE mangoes. I don't know if you can get different kinds of mangoes in where you live or not. Here in Yangon , when monsoon starts (which is about June to Aug), we can see diffrent kinds of mangoes with different shapes and colors and every kind is delicious to me. I love everything that is made with mango , mango ice cream , mango juice , mango cake , mango jelly .. literally everything. Mango is great , mango is everything. You can even eat it with rice , with just plain rice and fresh mangoes. That's a perfect match right there .. BOOM rice and mango. 

   Anyway ,we cannot have all the good things in our life right . that's the life. We have to have the bad things in life so that we can more appreciate and enjoy the good things.

Bagan never forgets me

Bagan
The city I love
The city I used to work
The city I admire
The city I am very proud of
The city that I'd like to show to the world
The city I'd like to take a break in
The city I like to spend as much time as it could possibly be
The city I could travel solo and stay alone


         I have had a chance to visit Bagan AGAIN at the end of 2014 , 29 Dec 14  .. It was all of a sudden .. I bought the bus ticket on the same day of traveling ... had no plans at all ..
         Me and my brother left Yangon at 8 pm with the bus ... and it took us 8 and half hours to get to Nyaung U then a 15 minute ride to New Bagan where our hotel was ..


We stayed at a hotel in New Bagan called Thirimarlar . It was a nice hotel ... We hired the electric bikes (kinda scooter) to explore Bagan .. It was much fun and wonderful to scroll around Bagan and its temple by bikes ... We just hoped on and off the bikes to see the temples

Had one day going around Bagan and enjoy the sunset on a terrace of a small pagoda .. not that beautiful as it was not sunny all day ... clouds covered up in sun set...

The following day was also with the E bikes ..... visiting the temples again ....

Got back to Yangon with the night bus on 31 Dec 14 , NYE ......

It was so relaxing just to be in Bagan , just to breathe the Bagan air .. just to see the rural things .. so relaxing

I just love it , I love everything about it , the music , the lyrics , the structure , the emotions coming out of his voice , Sam Smith is no joke .. he can really sing ... he has that soul , that kinda thing to make people feel what he is feeling or he wants the people feel . He is such an artist not just a pop star ...
